Explorations

As her studio is based in the Thames Gateway, an area of massive regeneration, Fiona is beginning to explore the relationship between artists, urban planners and cultural policy makers, investigating how we might use our creative skills to communicate ideas that will shape and affect our future working environment.

In collaboration with visual artist Stephen Turner, photographer Sara Norling and video-maker Margherita Gramegna she made Artists Walk Medway, a day long walk in which artists 'beat the bounds' of their artistic parish, 'tagging' landmarks en route with questions, drawings and statements as they learned of plans for the regeneration of the area. At the end of the day, artists drew up a list of fantasy studios and contributed to the Medway Cosmos, a piece of work made with Stephen Turner which was the original inspiration for the day.

She hopes to make the walk an annual event that will record and document this urban landscape as it changes and develops into a city.

Other projects are planned to involve artists and the wider community at this key stage in place-making ( see news page for updates)
